Thanks Mike and Sanders it was a pleasure.
I spoke to Oliver from Leica technical department today when I returned the loaned equipment and he told me that with the custom Leica programme that will be introduced later in the year it will be possible to have a camera to the specificatons that you want and as long as it is not something really special the price for the camera will not really be much more than the price for a normal range M camera and the waiting period will be one to two months. It will also be possible to modify cameras already purchased. The Digital Rs sensor size will not be made any larger because Leica technicians have decided the present size is the optimum size. The Digital M will according to Leicas technical manager be made with the same sensor size as the digital R and Herr Cohn mentioned that Kodak and Imacon will make the sensor, again the same manufactorer as the R. We were told yesterday that Leica will make a really wide angle lens specially for the digital M because all the focal lengths of existing lenses will become longer so to remedy the problem of very wide angle lenses becoming medium wide angle lenses it will be neccesary to make the extra wide angle lens. The digital M will have the frame system viewfinder the same as the analogue M but with the new focal length sizes to take account for the focal length exension. All of the present M lenses can be used with a digital M except maybe the 135 mm because that will become around a 180mm lens on the digital M.The release date will be 2006.
I am writing this post on my Sony Ericsson P800 from inside a little cafe across the square from the Domus in Wetzlar town centre. I will have a look at that Leica shop near the Domus tomorrow. I will close now because two attractive girls have just sat next to me so I will have a closer look at them and of course be a complete gentleman which I never am.
Regards Brian
En résumé : même capteur que le R et la taille du capteur impose des objectifs très GA
